In response to the devastating algal bloom affecting the South Australian and south-western coastlines over 2025 and extending into 2026, Fish Life held a climate emergency craft workshop at Trocadero, Footscray. The aim of the workshop was to promote discussion and raise awareness of the unfolding marine disaster. We worked with cyanotypes, kelp leather, and ebroidery to create elements of a banner. The craft process helped participants to build affinity with aquatic-kin and the ocean world.
Future iterations of the workshop hope to bring the banner together and to emphasise the importance of climate change in disasters like the algal bloom.
